Gone Grandma Gone...

Yesterday morning at 6:30 I got up just in time to see my mom duck into our bathroom to get dressed. Her shuttle to the airport picked her up at our house at 7 am. When she came out rolling duffle in hand, I made her hold baby Alex one more time before leaving. Then I also made her go give the kids a last hug and kiss. Holly of course slept through the goodbye, Lincoln however did exactly what the rest of us felt like doing. He started to cry. I don't know exactly what it is about living more than a days drive away from our closest relatives that makes it really sad when they leave; that is how it is though, like it or not, we watch them leave, wave goodbye, blow some last minute kisses, and then inevitably we all go back inside and sink on the couch. It is as if we can feel the distance growing as they drive away. Of Course the feeling is merely one of knowing that in the end we have just our little family to rely on. Not that we don't have great friends here, but more that they don't really know us. That being said, we are so grateful for Grandma's visit. She was doing the laundry the night before she left, and there is no way to say thank you enough for that. Life with a new baby is different, more kids hanging on you, more diapers to change, and less sleep as well. We have rounded the corner for Alex's jaundice and he actually slept for 4 hours last night. It was luxurious, until Holly crawled into bed with us.
