I am writing this, and taking the chance that Hans forgives me, but I have to write and say how incredibly smart Hans is! This Summer started, Hans had a rough plan to go in, buckle down and study a few hours a day for his upcoming comprehensive exams. He talked about it, checked out a book here or there, would briefly read some articles, and so I started panicking. Really, I was all freaked out. I kept having this dream (that I never mentioned to Hans) about not being able to find the freeway entrance, and staying in Columbia forever. I know I kept nicely bugging Hans about studying. I know that if I was taking those exams, I would be flipping out and cramming every day. But that is not Hans, and I will admit now to you all, that I, more than anyone forgot the fact that this was Hans, and he KNOWS how to write! As the dreaded week approached I was worried, but he had it together, and he knew what he needed to know.
Well here is the happy ending! Hans passed his exams. He did an amazing job. I know he did because his committee deliberated and made their decision faster than Hans could run to use the restroom. So I just want to say, Sorry Hans for freaking out on you. I am so proud of you. You really are the most intelligent Man I know. Happy ABD (all but dissertation)!!!
PS- I used this picture because not only is Hans smart, he's also a great Dad that does funny things to make us laugh and show us that we are his priority in life. Thanks sweetie.

Okay, for a slight second there I freaked out because I saw "HE PASSED!" and then a guy laying in the snow. I did, however, figure it out. Congrats, Hans!
Congrats, Hans!!! And kudos to you Merilee for being such a great wife (I'm sure he couldn't have done it without your love and support...) Hope you guys are doing well!

You are all too nice! Thanks so much and thanks Merilee for putting this up. I'm trying to keep everything in perspective. It doesn't mean anything until I finish my dissertation, but it's nice to know things are finishing up.
Heartfelt congratulations and love to you both!!! It's so good to know that things go well for your friends... dissertation then the world!!! :)
Merilee--
Hey, I found your blog and I have enjoyed reading and catching up on your family. I loved your comment about blogs being like looking in someone's medicine cabinet. Cracked me up.
